Feel the Siwa Oasis of Egypt's Adrere Amellal Desert

Want to try to feel the atmosphere of a magical oasis in the middle of the desert like in the movie The Mummies? Or do you want to live in a real sand castle right under the olive and palm trees? Just try staying at The Adrere Amellal, a resort with a unique concept in Egypt. Adrere Amellal not far from Siwa, an ancient city, sits atop the famous oasis of 7 salt lakes mentioned in ancient Roman history.

Situated in a desert oasis, this quiet Berber-style hotel is 0.6 mi from the ancient tomb of Gebel al-Mawta and 1.9 mi from the Oracle of Amun Temple.

The Libyan Desert is part of the Sahara characterized by large sand dunes that stretch into eastern Libya, northern Sudan, and western Egypt. The Egyptian side is 681,000 sq / km and is inhabited by 2% of the population, mainly of Berber descent or descent from Arab Bedouins.

Siwa Oasis is located where this desert began, approximately 300 km south of the Mediterranean coast. Leaving Cairo, via Alexandria, you travel about 500 km along the highway to Marsa Matruh. You can reach Marsa Matruh by plane thanks to the international airport; during the summer months there are direct flights to and from Cairo. Once you reach Marsa Matruh, you go from the Mediterranean coast to the desert
about 300 km on a comfortable surface road which appears to be drawn as a long straight line to Shiva.

Siwa can also be reached via charter flights to the nearest airport (40 km), which is capable of serving international flights.

In Egypt there is a very developed network of buses, taxis, car rentals and air taxis. Upon request, the Resort can arrange bookings for transportation.

Siwa Oasis can be the chosen place for a relaxing holiday to appreciate the natural beauty of the place and visit the archaeological sites, in the pleasant and comfortable atmosphere offered by the Resort. At the same time Shiva is the most important stopover of an oasis tour. From here depart the route leading to Baharia, Farafra, Kharga and Dahla.

The tour was scheduled to return to Siwa, but we could easily have set straight back to Cairo.

Shiva has been interpreted as an oasis of history. The most recent study began with the Rohlf expedition in 1870, whose ambition was to retrace the ancient caravan route that ran from the Nile valley to Libya. The expedition acquired basic geographic and archaeological knowledge of the area.

The temple of the god Amon, a great remnant still here to be admired, was mentioned for the first time during the 26th Dynasty (663 - 525 BC) as the place where the Pharaohs would visit to consult the Oracle, at a time as prestigious and as famous as Delphi.

The handcrafted rooms without electricity have local furnishings and decorations, as well as a seating area and en suite bathroom, and room service is available.

There is an outdoor pool, and a simple restaurant with regional cuisine offering poolside lunch and dinner service. Guided desert tours and cultural tours are also available.
