Chess is a sport that involves intense intellectual challenges. This sport is also considered very good for the health of the mind. Chess will make the players put all their minds into making strategies to win the game.

Here are three of the best chess players in Indonesia based on the International Chess Federation (FIDE) ranking:

1. GM Susanto Megaranto

Susanto Megaranto was born in Tempel Village, Lelea District, Indramayu Regency, on October 8, 1987. He is the youngest of two siblings to Wasdirah and Darsinah. Susanto got to know and started learning chess at the age of seven.

According to the version of the World Chess Federation (FIDE), which houses various chess federations in the world, Susanto Megaranto occupies a position in the first ranking list. In 1995, when he was 7.5 years old, Susanto Megaranto started playing professional chess by participating in the 12th Age Group Regional Championship (Kejurda) in Cianjur, West Java.

Susanto is not a foreign figure in the Indonesian chess world. Susanto Megaranto shocked Indonesia when he defeated the chess legend Utut Adianto. At the age of 17, he won the title of Grandmaster, which is the highest title in the world of chess. Currently Susanto Megaranto is listed as an Indonesian chess player with the highest ELO rating in the FIDE version with 2550 points as of March 2021.


2. GM Novendra Priasmoro

GM Novendra Priasmoro has an ELO rating of 2502. He successfully won the tournament as well as confirmed the Grand Master title after winning streaks in the seventh round of the Liberec Open.

Novendra is noted as the Indonesian chess player who beat GothamChess the most among the seven other chess players, including Dewa Kipas. Novendra successfully won the Grand Master (GM) title and won the tournament. Novendra won the GM title in the seventh round of the Liberec Open after winning for the seventh time in a row by beating IM Klaudia Kulon who has a rating of 2335 from Poland.

3. Yoseph Theolifus Taher

The chess player who was born on March 26, 1999 in Sampit, Central Kalimantan Province, started getting acquainted and learning chess since the 5th grade of elementary school from his Batak neighbor named Irwanto Silaen. Since then Yosep started to love chess because he considered it both difficult and challenging

His spectacular achievement was winning the 24-hour marathon online blitz chess tournament at the Offerspill Relief Arena, in the world's largest online chess tournament because 18,728 people, Yoseph runners-up, participated.
Some of Yoseph's great overseas achievements that are noteworthy include holding off GM Wang Hao's mussels in the 2018 Asian Continental Chess Championship in the Philippines and also playing with GM's World Chess Champion Ju Wenjun in the sixth round at the 2019 Hunan Open in China.

For Yoseph, Chess is his life where he really dedicates himself to take the Chess path. Even though he is very young, this teenager has managed to show that even though he is very young, he is able to excel both nationally and internationally.
